(I know there are similar threads in the past, but I want up-to-date info!)My situation:
- I live in BC.
- I'm from Alberta; I have family in Alberta; I have a mailing address in Alberta
- I even have an active Alberta driver's license (I never bothered changing it to a BC one)
Is there any way for me to either:
(1) Buy a car in BC, say I'm from Alberta (with my Alberta driver's license) to avoid tax, and then somehow eventually register the car in BC without paying tax?
(2) Buy a car in Alberta, avoid tax, and then ship/drive the car back to BC and eventually register it there without paying tax?
From my quick research, it seems like there are no loopholes Seems like they will charge me BC PST when I register my car in BC?
When I bought my last car in 2006:
- I bought a new Honda in Alberta under my mom's name
- only paid GST because it was in Alberta
- had the car shipped to BC
- got my mom to gift the car to me with a gift note
- registered the car, which was now under my name, in BC - and they never charged me PST
...but I *think* this loophole is now closed?
Thanks!

Touring the states extensively, they developed a reputation as a “must-see” live band on the DIY circuit. Over the course of the last five years, they've honed in on a distinct and arresting sound, incorporating gorgeous three-part harmonies into their chaotic grooves and working with a slew of talented musicians from within their circle. Eventually the mercurial nature of their early performances began to manifest itself in their music, with each Palberta release proving to be more full of surprises than the last.Roach Goin' Down is Palberta's most impressive album to date. Twenty-two tracks combine the band's signature frenetic instrumentation with a thoroughly developed pop sensibility that fans merely glimpsed on previous releases. The songs are lovingly crafted and shine with the confidence of a band discovering new musical possibilities and having a blast doing it. As usual, their excitement is sonically palpable, yet this time it's grounded by a lyrical nuance and newfound melancholy that gives the record an air of maturity compared to previous releases.Recorded by frequent collaborator Paco Cathcart (The Cradle), Roach Goin' Down is a brilliantly constructed work of beauty and bile. Palberta continue to pave the way as innovators in the field of guitar-based music, delivering a barrage of twisted, catchy hymns that manage to be both challenging and feverishly compelling.PAST PRESSBandcamp Daily Bye Bye Berta Album of the Day Feature At times, it's a challenging listen, but it's by forging new paths that cult heroes are made. The Fader Bands to Watch in 2018 ...they are really fucking good...Pitchfork Review of Bye Bye Berta The sound of trio Palberta evokes the post-punk era's great experimentalists, with overloaded glee and delirious energy.Rollingstone 10 Artists You Need to Know ...from Yoko-centric skronk-funk into dreamy, harmony-soaked broken pop.Noisey Feature on Palberta and Roach Goin' Down ...'Roach Goin' Down' is a special, experimental take on what it means to rock.Pitchfork Review of Roach Goin' Down [7.8] Palberta leap another level on the hyper-charged 'Roach Goin' Down'...Stereogum Premieres 'Roach Goin' Down' and Announces LP ...A snotty rage against domesticity and stasis.Allmusic Review of Roach Goin' Down ...Palberta continue to hone their skills while losing none of the uniqueness of their earlier work. The Fader Premieres 'Big Time' ...showcasing the loose-screw energy that has made Palberta's live shows such a full-on fixture in some circles.Paste Magazine 15 Bands You Need to Know ...The post-punk experimentalists are both haphazard and composed, making each of their releases a wild, unexpected ride. The Fader Bands to Watch in 2018 ...they are really fucking good...Rolling Stone 10 Artists You Need to Know ...from Yoko-centric skronk-funk into dreamy, harmony-soaked broken pop.
